“Betcha Can’t Eat Just One”

By | Emotional Eating, Food/Joyful Eating, Nutrition | No Comments

There’s something about Trader Joe’s Roasted Plantain Chips that make me feel as though I can’t eat just one. But, I know from experience that if I eat as many I feel compelled to, I will feel sick.

I  remember an old ad campaign for Lay’s potato chips that challenged us to control ourselves with a bag of chips by saying “Betcha can’t eat just one”. Well, they had a point. It’s pretty, darn hard. I discovered that the more processed the food, the more likely it is to trigger the “I can’t have just one” response. Read More

Minute Meals – Turkey Cranberry Chopped Salad

Turkey Cranberry Chopped Salad

About this series: My clients feel overwhelmed when they realize what it takes to really care for themselves with food. And I understand. I admit to them that I think of myself as “…SO much work”. To be healthy, we have to give ourselves quite a bit of attention. Approximately six times a day we need to purchase or prepare a meal for ourselves. If we have kids and/or a spouse, multiply that need by the number of mouths in the home. For health, the foods we choose can’t be just anything. I suggest to my clients that they give themselves something enjoyable and nutritious whenever they’re hungry. That way, each meal or snack can be an experience that satisfies and nourishes the body and soul, preventing later food cravings Read More

Edible, Non-Toxic, Homemade Deodorant

By | Food/Joyful Eating, Nutrition, Recipes | No Comments

Did you know that most store-bought deodorants contain metals? Metal is toxic to the body and may contribute to the development of cancer and other diseases. Any product that is put onto the skin will be absorbed into the body. So I have made an effort to get rid of unnatural beauty and skin products in favor of edible products. If it goes into my body, I want it to be easily metabolized by it.

On that note, my favorite new discovery is an edible, non-toxic, homemade deodorant. I got the recipe from singer/songwriter Chelsea Moon. It takes no more than three minutes to whip together. It’s edible, although it would taste awful. It doesn’t contain any of the metals or toxic chemicals found in store-bought deodorants. And, it really works. One application may last for a couple of days. Read More

Cashew Pancakes (Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Low Sugar)

By | Food/Joyful Eating, Nutrition, Recipes | No Comments

I have some food intolerances and so do many of my clients. I’ve done a lot of experimenting with recipes to ensure that I can still enjoy the foods I love without the ingredients that disagree with my body.

These pancakes have become a family favorite at my home. They are a delicious, gluten-free, dairy-free, low sugar alternative to traditional pancakes. You can make them with or without the chocolate chips. Consider substituting blueberries or other fruits for the chocolate chips. Read More
